Modernization of Kazakhstan’s large oil refinery to be completed soon

Modernization of the Atyrau refinery, one of the largest in Kazakhstan, will be completed by the end of May, representatives of the refinery said at a meeting with the country’s prime minister, KazMunayGas press service said in a message.

"Presently, we work on renovation of a butene oligomerization unit, designed to produce a high-octane component of gasoline, as well as a hydrogen production and purification plant. We also continue commissioning work on other facilities of the complex. The completion of commissioning process is planned before the end of May this year," the message said.

The prime minister was also informed about the progress in the launch of catalytic cracking, liquefied gas and combined sulfur production units.

Production of commercial motor gasoline at the Atyrau refinery has been more than doubled from 1,900 to 4,500 tons per day.

After completion of start-up operations, the refinery will increase production of light oil products, including high-octane gasoline - from 643,000 to 1,600,000 tons per year, aviation fuel - from 21,000 to 75,000 tons per year with subsequent increase up to 250,000 tons per year.
