Apple's iPhone 16 series constitutes the latest iPhones the company has released.
The newest iPhone is the iPhone 16e, Apple's latest entry-level option, which hit store shelves on February 28, 2025. The rest of the iPhone 16 series, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, was released on September 20, 2024.
The oldest iPhones Apple still sells in a new condition are the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which were released on September 22, 2023.

The latest iPhones are the iPhone 16 series
Apple's iPhone 16e features significant upgrades over the previous entry-level iPhone, including Apple Intelligence, Face ID, and an Action button. It offers several key aspects of the flagship iPhone 16 model for $200 less.
The iPhone 16e is the newest iPhone, released on February 28, 2025. It starts at $599 and serves as Apple's entry-level value option. For its more affordable price tag, the iPhone 16e comes with compromises. Notably, it only has a single camera and omits the standard ultrawide camera on other iPhones. It also lacks Apple's Dynamic Island and its useful functionality and features instead of the static notch introduced with the iPhone X in 2017. There's also no larger "Plus" model of the iPhone 16e.
Other feature gaps include connectivity to the fastest 5G networks, known as mmWave 5G. Still, the iPhone 16e supports low- and mid-band 5G networks, which are fast enough for most people's needs.
The iPhone 16e also doesn't feature MagSafe support, which means it doesn't magnetically attach to MagSafe chargers and accessories. Still, this can be mitigated with a third-party case that includes MagSafe magnets.
You can use a MagSafe case to wirelessly charge the iPhone 16e on a MagSafe charger, but it'll only charge at the Qi standard's 7.5W rate, significantly slower than MagSafe's speeds of up to 25W.

Apple's latest entry-level phones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, run the company's new AI suite, Apple Intelligence, and boast some hardware upgrades like useful new buttons and a new-generation processor.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus were released on September 20, 2024. The standard iPhone 16 is the top pick in our best iPhone guide for its balance of performance, features, and value. The iPhone 16 Plus is basically a larger version of the iPhone 16 with the same performance, design, and features, except for its larger 6.7-inch display, extended battery life, and higher price tag.
With the iPhone 16 series, Apple considerably narrowed the gap between the base and Pro models by including features like Apple Intelligence, the Camera Control button, macro photography, ray tracing for games, faster MagSafe charging, an improved ultrawide camera, and the Action button in the base iPhone 16.
While the base iPhone 16 models don't feature a dedicated zoom lens like the iPhone 16 Pro models, they have an optical-quality 2x zoom option that expands the cameras' range while maintaining flawless quality.
For the price, it's only lacking Apple's ProMotion display that supports up to 120Hz refresh rate, which we feel should be standard on a phone in the $800 price range.

The iPhone 16 Pro models support Apple's headlining new feature, Apple Intelligence. They also include upgraded cameras, the A18 Pro processor, a new Camera Control button, and improved battery life.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were released on the same day as the base iPhone 16 models — September 20, 2024.
With the iPhone 16 Pro models, Apple introduced new and larger 6.3 and 6.9-inch screen sizes. These models are best for people who value or often take zoomed photos, as they feature a dedicated 5x zoom lens.
They also include Apple's A18 Pro processor for the longest-lasting performance and unlock several professional features that truly fulfill the "Pro" denomination. These include 4K video recording at 120 frames-per-second (fps) in the Dolby Vision HDR standard; the ProRes, LOG, and ACES video recording formats; ProRAW photos; a studio-quality four-microphone array; and a USB-C port that supports up to USB 3 data transfer speeds.
The iPhone 16 Pro models support Apple's ProMotion display with 120Hz refresh rates. This display delivers smoother animations when swiping around the iOS operating system and apps, imparting a premium feel that the iPhone 16's standard 60Hz display simply can't replicate.

Apple still sells two previous-generation phones
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are somewhat out of place in Apple's lineup when their primary benefit is an ultrawide camera, while the iPhone 16e has a newer processor and Apple Intelligence for a lower price. They're still great phones for those not interested in Apple Intelligence features.

On the other hand, they're technically more high-end, as they include almost all the missing features we'd usually expect on iPhones, like an ultrawide camera, built-in MagSafe support, mmWave 5G connectivity, and the Dynamic Island.
