Former Texas A&M F/C has announced his transfer destination
On Friday afternoon, just a few days after entering the transfer portal with a "do not contact" tag, former Texas A&M F/C Pharrel Payne joined Buzz Williams at Maryland.
There is no real surprise here. Outside of several times this season, Payne seemed to be the forgotten man on offense in key situations despite his efficiency down the stretch. He really blossomed in the NCAA tournament, where he averaged 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and a remarkable 80% field-goal shooting. Going into the 2026 season, he was seen as one of the main offensive weapons for the Aggies before Buzz took the Terrapins coaching job.
With a majority of the A&M's players with eligibility entering the portal and the Aggie still coachless, expect a few others to follow Paynes' lead to the Big Ten. To further drive home this point, Manny Obaseki recently gave an interview stating as much.
Below you can see Paynes' announcement via social media.
