Freedom Mobile launches $40/100GB and other plans, with a catch

These limited-time plans are only good for people who don't travel

Freedom Mobile $40/100GB plan.

Freedom Mobile launched new, limited-time plans with tons more data for roughly the same price as existing plans. However, the new plans only offer Canada-wide usage.

Freedom’s three new plans are available until April 14, 2025. The plans are as follows:

  • $40/100GB 5G+
  • $50/125GB 5G+
  • $60/150GB 5G+

All of the new plans include an automatic payment discount and unlimited Canada-wide talk and text. The plans only work in Canada, unlike Freedom’s other plans with North American roaming and ‘Roam Beyond’ data for use outside of North America.

Overall, these plans look like great options for anyone who doesn’t frequent the U.S. or Mexico. To put them in perspective, the $40/100GB plan is only a dollar more than Freedom’s $39/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan and $9 cheaper than the $49/80GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan. If you need a lot of data and you don’t travel often, it’s a pretty obvious choice.

The new, limited-time plans are also more flexible. Freedom’s $49/80GB and $59/100GB plans require a minimum three-month commitment (presumably to prevent people from signing up for a month when they travel and cancelling once they get home). The limited-time plans have no such commitment.

Looking beyond Freedom Mobile, you’d have a hard time finding something comparable at other providers. Public Mobile has a $35/60GB Canada/U.S./Mexico plan and other options comparable to Freedom’s North American plans but nothing that matches the limited-time offers. (At least, not yet. Public might try to match Freedom.)

Koodo, Virgin Plus, and Fido have $39/60GB and $54/80GB 4G plans, far cries from all of Freedom’s offers (limited time or otherwise). And Fido’s set to end its 60GB and 80GB offers on April 14, the same day as Freedom.

Rogers, Bell, and Telus don’t even come close unless you also have internet with them. If you combine your internet and mobile, you can get a $45/100GB 5G plan from each of the Big Three.

Freedom’s plans will be available until April 14 on the company’s website and presumably in-store too, though customers can save the $45 connection fee by activating online.
