LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Workers at Caesars Southern Indiana are threatening to strike over their latest contract offer.
Members of Teamsters Local 89 and Operating Engineers Local 399 voted in favor of going on strike by a 98% margin, but that doesn't mean a strike is starting.
The vote serves as an authorization, meaning the rank and file support walking off the job. Ultimately, a strike authorization vote is used as a bargaining tactic.
"Our members are united and ready to fight for the strongest possible agreement," Avral Thompson, president of Teamsters Local 89, said in a news release Tuesday. "This vote sends a clear message — we will not back down. If management won't negotiate in good faith, we're prepared to take action."
The unions said the casino isn't offering fair retirement benefits in their latest contract offer, and they're also far apart on other key pay issues.
This impacts more than 140 workers. Requests to Caesars for comment have not yet been returned.
