PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A broad area of low pressure that stretches from about the Great Lakes states to Alaska is impacting much of the U.S. That includes Arizona, of course.

The trough is expected to stay in place for the next 48 hours or so. That will continue to bring us unsettled and cooler-than-average weather statewide. And we could see a few rain and snow showers in northern Arizona, though none of the precipitation is expected to be very heavy. The system won’t exit Arizona until Sunday night, so all of our weather between now and then will be caused by this large storm system. It’s about 2,500 miles wide at this point.

Wind advisories and high wind warnings were posted for much of eastern Arizona. As of 1:30 p.m. Arizona time on Tuesday, we’ve recorded wind gusts of more than 50 miles an hour at Greer, Springerville, Showlow, Holbrook and Snowflake.

Around the Valley, the peak wind gusts have been in the low 30s. There’s been a big temperature change as well. Most locations in northern Arizona are 10-15 degrees cooler on Tuesday compared to Monday. The Valley is running about 10 degrees cooler.

We can expect Valley highs in the mid-to-upper 60s on Wednesday, with a slow warming trend toward the weekend. By Saturday, we should stop out in the upper 70s. By Sunday, we’ll be in the low 80s, which is about average for this time of year.

On this day in 1986, two different funnel clouds were reported over Glendale. Neither touched down.
