The next opportunity Mid-Missouri has to see severe weather arrives late Tuesday night through Wednesday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Storm Prediction Center has placed the KRCG 13 viewing area under a level 2 slight risk for areas west of a line from Mexico to Camdenton and a level 1 marginal risk for areas east of that line.
The main hazards associated with these storms are large hail and damaging wind gusts, but we can't rule out an isolated tornado risk.
The main line of storms will likely begin rolling into our westernmost counties between 6-8 AM Wednesday morning, but a few models hint at some isolated storms developing to our west and moving in prior to midnight Tuesday night.
If those storms do develop, they would pose a risk for large hail, damaging wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes.
Those same isolated storms, if they do occur, could also affect the later line by weakening the environment, making it harder for the early Wednesday storms to strengthen.
That said, we should prepare for a stormy start to the day on Wednesday.
One note of good news is that the risk for a second round of severe weather on Wednesday afternoon has slightly decreased.
The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the level 3 enhanced risk further east towards the Mississippi River.
Current thinking as of Tuesday afternoon is that once the initial line of storms moves east of the area the threat for severe weather will begin to end from west to east through the rest of Wednesday afternoon.
The rest of the week looks to remain rather wet as a stalled front becomes the focus for several rounds of storms and heavy rain into the weekend.
At this time, severe weather after Wednesday looks low except for Friday in areas south and east of Jefferson City.
Flooding concerns will increase with each round of heavy rainfall.
