Court docs: Kansas City shooting took less than a minute, suspect fired repeatedly
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man is charged with second-degree murder in a crime that took less than a minute to commit, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors charged Damien Carter with the following crimes:
- Second-degree murder
- 2 counts of armed criminal action
- Unlawful use of a weapon

According to court records, police responded to a shooting on E. 29th Street and Oakley Avenue on March 29.
Officers arrived and found 56-year-old Pamela Ahmed suffering from gunshot injuries in the front yard of a residence. Ahmed died of her injuries at the scene.
Crime scene investigators located 11 shell casings around the victim’s body.
Investigators reviewed video surveillance from the area at the time of the shooting. Court documents show a light tan or silver Chevrolet Tahoe arriving and parking in front of the house. Police later identified Carter as the driver.
Video shows Carter with a gun. The probable cause statement alleges Carter walks toward the house, points the gun at Ahmed, and starts shooting. The court document also accuses Carter of continuing to shoot Ahmed after she falls to the ground.
Carter returns to his vehicle and leaves the area, according to surveillance video mentioned in the probable cause statement.
Police investigators used city cameras and license plate reader cameras to track Carter to Independence Avenue and Bales Avenue. An analyst also used reports from recent drug activity in the area to identify Carter as a suspect in the shooting.
Carter made his first appearance on the charges Tuesday afternoon.
