Kelce posted career lows in multiple categories during the 2024 campaign.

His 823 yards and three touchdowns were both the worst marks of his career.

Kelce had such a bad season that he was contemplating retirement following his Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, he ultimately decided to play another season with the Chiefs.

While it took him some time to announce his decision to return to the team, Andy Reid revealed that he knew Kelce's decision within a week of the Super Bowl.

"I just wanted him to put it out there and not me" Reid said on Monday, via The Athletic.

"I always like guys to step back (after the season), but he wants to come back and he's training like crazy too."

Reid revealed that Kelce is putting in the work to return to his form as a top tight end in the NFL.

He also tried to provide some reasoning as to why Kelce struggled so much last year.

"He’s willing. He’s learning when to come out, so he’ll get himself out of the game when he needs it. And I think that’ll just continue with age," Reid said at the NFL league meetings on Monday.

"I didn’t think that was an issue this year, but I thought we were banged up at the outside positions and that doesn’t help a tight end’s cause at all.

"I just think the healthier we can be around him - he can still be productive."

Chiefs ownership is also excited to have Kelce back in action for the 2025 season.

"I'm so excited that he's going to be back," owner Clark Hunt said, via The Athletic.

"I think deep down, Brett [Veach], Andy [Reid], and I felt like he would be back.

"He loves the game, he loves his teammates, and I know Coach Reid is excited to have his energy back in the building for at least one more year."

Kelce only has one year left on his contract, but he hasn't made it known if he will retire after the deal is done.

He has a $19.8 million cap hit for the 2025 season and becomes a free agent at the end of the year.
