Fans gather at the St. Peter’s Rec Plex in Missouri in support of the West Bend Power hockey team, which reached the Fraser Cup Championship for the first time in franchise history on Sunday, falling to the Louisiana Drillers 5-1.

ST. PETER’S, Mo. — The Power traveled to Missouri for the Fraser Cup Championship at the St. Peter’s Rec Plex and came up just one game short, finishing as runner-ups for the 2025 North American 3 Hockey League season after dropping the championship game to the Louisiana Drillers 5-1 on Sunday.

The Power entered the Saturday semifinals as the No. 2 seed in Pool A and faced off against the Granite City Lumberjacks, the No. 1 seed in Pool B. In what was a hard-fought defensive battle, the Power came away with a 2-0 victory, which advanced them to the championship on Sunday.

Trace Shumlas scored the first goal of the game at 4:11 of the second period. The game stayed that way until Tegan Scheurer scored an empty net goal with just 6.8 seconds remaining to seal the win. Adam Prokop stopped all 23 Granite City shots on goal to help the Power reach the Fraser Cup championship game for the first time in franchise history.

The Drillers struck first at 4:42 of the first period. West Bend was able to tie things up late in in the first with a goal from Michael Maillette, but despite several scoring opportunities were unable to light the lamp again in the game.

The Drillers scored twice in the second period and twice in the third, one into an empty net for the eventual 5-1 final.

Playing seven games in 10 days and a long list of injured players proved to be too much for the Power, as they fell short in the final game of the year.

“We fell short today, but I’m just so proud of the effort of our team here and all through the road to get to this point,” Power coach Jason Woods said. “They played so hard until the end but just ran out of steam today.”

The Power organization would like to thank its fans, billets, sponsors and the West Bend community for their support throughout the entire season.
