KIMBERLY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Next stop: Utah Tech.

Kimberly seniors Damon Taylor and Mason Jensen signed on Monday to continue their football careers at Utah Tech University.

The two Bulldogs helped Kimberly to back-to-back Sawtooth Central Idaho Conference Championships and a third-place finish at state in the 2024 season.

“Being able to sign with my best friend is a crazy feeling,” Taylor told KMVT. “We’ve dreamt about this since middle school.”

The two have played football together all their lives and will continue that in St. George, Utah.

“I love that we get to keep playing football with each other,” Jensen said. “We’ve always competed and pushed each other to be better. I’m ready to ball with him at the next level.”

Taylor was named the SCIC Offensive Player of the Year and was a 4A All-State second team running back. He rushed for over 1,200 yards for the Bulldogs and scored nine touchdowns. He had 6.5 yards a carry and had 100 yards receiving.

He credits his teammates in the trenches for his senior season.

“They’re a bunch of dogs,” Taylor said. “They worked so hard each and every day to put me in a great position on the field.”

Taylor’s family vacations in St. George, where he noticed the school in eighth grade, and thought it would be a good program to pursue a track career.

After attending a football camp at the school, he fell in love with the program and coaching staff.

“The facilities were amazing, and I enjoyed all the aspects of the program,” Taylor noted. “I got the call from Coach (Lance) Anderson, who guaranteed me a spot. Just seeing it come true and having it on paper is incredible.”

Mason Jensen will join Taylor at Utah Tech. Jensen signed in November but did the signing with Taylor on Monday.

“You dreamt of this since being a little kid,” Jensen explained passionately to KMVT. “I get to go play college football and live out my dreams. I couldn’t be more excited.”

Jensen, a three-star recruit according to 247 Sports, held offers from the University of Idaho and Idaho State University.

Instead of staying in the Gem State, he knew the Trailblazers were the best fit for him.

“It came down to coach (Lance) Anderson’s faith in me.” He and the entire coaching staff showed me a lot of love, and I knew I wanted to be a part of the program.”

Jensen will play tight end for Utah Tech. During his senior season, he had 34 catches for 382 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the football field, he was named an All-Conference first team selection and second-team state selection at defensive end.

Utah Tech is an FCS Division I school that competes in the United Athletic Conference. The school transitioned to Division I in 2020.

The two join Minico graduate Ryker Stimpson on the Trailblazers.
