INDIAN RIVER BAY, DE - The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has reported a dead whale in Delaware waters.
Details are currently limited, but DNREC says the U.S. Coast Guard alerted them to the stranded animal in shallow waters in the Indian River Bay early morning March 31.
This is the second dead whale reported in Delaware in March. Earlier this month, a dead juvenile humpback whale washed ashore near the Delaware Seashore State Park.
The whale found on March 31 was also identified as a humpback whale and was estimated by DNREC to be 30 to 40 feet long.
DNREC says Natural Resources Police are on the scene along with the MERR The Institute.National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has been alerted as well.
