Maryland adds 3,400 new jobs in February
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Maryland added 3,400 new jobs in February 2025.
Maryland's private sector helped to add 4,600 jobs, while government jobs dropped by about 1,200, mainly because of federal workforce layoffs. However, the report doesn't include recent federal job cuts that started in mid-February.
Since January 2023, Maryland has gained 99,000 jobs, growing by 3.6%, which is better than the national growth rate of 2.9%. Though recent federal actions could hurt Maryland's job growth.
The unemployment rate in Maryland stayed at 3.0%, lower than the national rate of 4.1%. The biggest job increases in February came from construction, health care, food services, administrative support, and arts and entertainment.
The largest employment losses in February came from government layoffs, professional scientific and technical services, retail trade, and information jobs, according to the report.
