Kaieteur News- A 30-year-old man, who is accused of committing multiple robberies in recent days, was shot several times by police after he fired several chops with a cutlass in his attempt to resist being arrested at Spring Garden, Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
The suspect has been identified as Vishal Anuage, a resident of Onderneeming, Region Two. Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum, confirmed to Kaieteur News that the suspect is wanted for a series of robberies in the Supenaam Waterfront area.
According to Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage, Anuage was seen breaking into a Superbet outlet located at Supenaam on Friday. A time stamp on the footage showed that the incident occurred around 02:41h. The suspect was seen entering the outlet, with a tool in his hand, which he used to open another door, where the cashier section was located. He was seen scanning the place, when his eyes fell on where an undisclosed amount of cash was situated at the cash registry in a black box. Anuage then took the cash and made good his escape.
Police reported that acting on information received, ranks were deployed to Spring Garden, Public Road where contact was made with Anuage at about 08:10h. The suspect was seen with a strap bag on his shoulder and a cutlass in his hand, heading south on the eastern side of the public road.
“As the cars approached him, he ran east into a yard and proceeded further east along the sea dam. As such, the ranks disembarked the vehicles and gave chase. The ranks shouted for him to stop and surrender himself,” police said in the report.
The suspect stopped, but as police approached him he fired several chops at the ranks and they fired several rounds in his direction which hit his thigh, hand, and abdomen. He continued to approach the ranks with the cutlass, but he fell on the ground. Following this he was taken to Suddie Public Hospital by the ranks, where he is being treated while under police guard. The cutlass and the strap bag were retrieved by the Police. Police noted that within the bag were $243,750 cash, one G-shock wristwatch, three Digicel and GTT phone cards valued $300,000.
Series of crime the suspect allegedly committed
Meanwhile, on January 19, 2025, a break-in occurred at Lot 12 Adventure, Essequibo Coast, where $200,000 in cash was stolen from Irving Rambharack. Later, on January 28-29, 2025, a break-in took place at Lot 29 Adventure Back Street, where Munesh Chowbay lost a laptop valued at $300,000 and an electronic tablet valued at $100,000.
On February 5, 2025, another break-in was reported at Lot 11 Adventure Sand Top, where Krishna Narine had a gold ring worth $80,000 and $20,000 in cash stolen. Just a few days later, on February 8, 2025, a break-in occurred at Adventure Back Street, Essequibo Coast, with $100,000 in cash being stolen from Fareena Calender. In addition, between February 3 and 4, 2025, the dwelling house of Pumashwarie Beepat was targeted in a break-in at Adventure.
In a separate incident on February 24, 2025, a break-in occurred at Middlesex, Essequibo Coast, where Mr. Indar had $150,000 in cash stolen, along with a Bluetooth speaker worth $25,000 and a BLU cellphone valued at $5,000. On February 8, 2025, Munesh Dyal and his wife Latchmi Lall fell victim to simple larceny at Adventure, losing $200,000 in cash and a gold chain worth $250,000. Additionally, on February 3-4, 2025, Doodnauth Singh reported the theft of a laptop valued at $130,000 at Adventure Sand Top.
Another simple larceny took place on February 12, 2025, at Cullen, Essequibo Coast, where Floyd Gilkes had a motorcycle worth $600,000 stolen. A more recent burglary occurred between March 18-19, 2025, at Lot 19 Adventure, where Leroy Jorday lost $500,000 in cash.
The most recent string of incidents took place on March 28, 2025, with several break-ins at Supenaam, Essequibo Coast. Devin Warner’s shop at Supenaam Waterfront was broken into, with $1,134,780 stolen. At Supenaam Market, Judy Wilson reported the theft of two wristwatches valued at $120,000, while Fareida Khan had an undisclosed amount of items stolen from her stall. Sharon Bachuss also fell victim to a break-in at Supenaam Market, losing a quantity of cigarettes and snacks worth $24,000
