A Revere man was sentenced Wednesday in Boston federal court for the armed robberies of two Boston-area convenience stores in less than one week, according to federal authorities.
Jaquan Barrows, 27, was sentenced to nine years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said in a statement.
In December, Barrows pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery interfering with interstate commerce and one count of using and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to, and in furtherance of a crime of violence, Foley said. Barrows was charged by criminal complaint in April.
On March 29, 2024, a man wearing a mask, dark clothing and an orange safety vest went into a Revere convenience store brandishing a gun, Foley said. He walked behind the counter, demanded cash from the cash register drawer, and more cash and a cellphone from the store clerk.
The suspect hit the clerk in the head with the gun, took an ice cream bar from a store freezer and left, Foley said.
Less than a week later, on April 4, 2024, a man wearing a black mask and dark clothes went into an Everett convenience store and looked like he was shopping, Foley said. After he was asked to pay for his items, he took out a gun, pointed it at the store clerk and demanded cash from the register and left.
A Honda Pilot was in the area of the Revere convenience store, Foley said. The vehicle was registered to someone who lived with Barrows. Surveillance footage showed Barrows wearing clothing similar to the robber.
During a police search of Barrows’ home on April 4, authorities found clothing that matched the ones the robber wore during the Revere robbery, Foley said. A gun was found, too. Barrows was immediately arrested.
