RiverLink warning customers of text messaging scams; what to look out for
RiverLink is warning customers again about reports of fraudulent text messages going around.
Text messages are going out to customers impersonating RiverLink and other tolling agencies.
Here are some examples RiverLink shared of possible texts people could get in an attempt to get them to click on a link:
RiverLink says to NOT click the link in these kinds of texts.
Customers who receive a text about their toll fee should inspect it closely and make sure all links are valid and connected to RiverLink.com.
RiverLink says scam text messages could include a link with the sender listed as "RiverLink" or "Kentucky Toll Roads."
Do not click on any links that ask for personal information, as RiverLink does not share toll charge information over text.
Officials say they only share low-balance and auto-replenishment reminders for customers with prepaid accounts via text.
If you do click one of the scam links, notify your bank or credit card provider to secure your information.
Here's what to do if you receive one of these texts:
- File a complaint with the IC3, www.ic3.gov, be sure to include:
- The phone number from where the text originated.
- The website listed within the text.
- Check your account using the toll service's legitimate website.
- Contact the toll service's customer service phone number.
- Delete any fraudulent texts received.
- If you clicked any link or provided your information, take efforts to secure your personal information and financial accounts. Dispute any unfamiliar charges.
