Globe subsidiary to switch on 2 data centers

The data center arm of Globe Telecom Inc. is on track to operate two new hubs this year, expanding its capacity by another 11 megawatts (MW) amid the rising demand for facilities that house critical networks and servers.

Carlo Malana, president and CEO of ST Telemedia Global Data Centers (STT GDC) Philippines, in a virtual briefing last week, said their total capacity was poised to reach 33 MW this year from the current 22 MW.

The total capacity is slated to reach up to 52 MW by next year.

The first phase of the 124-MW STT Fairview data center in Quezon City is set to be launched by the second quarter with an anchor tenant.

The data center operator earlier said they would spend about $1 billion for the facility sprawling over 83,000 square meters (sq m) of gross floor area across four buildings.

Meanwhile, the STT Cavite 2 facility is ready to accommodate tenants by “late 2025.” The 6-MW hub is a two-story building with a gross floor area of over 4,500 sq m.

Malana said that hyperscalers have been driving the demand for data center services in the country.

Hyperscalers are entities providing cloud, networking and internet services such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google GCP, Alibaba AliCloud, IBM and Oracle. —Tyrone Jasper C. Piad
