Shot at a range of over a quarter of a mile, a fuzzy image of an Arctic loon off a beach near Herbster is the first time the species ever was recorded in Wisconsin. Department of Natural Resources conservation biologist Ryan Brady and friends Betsy Bartelt and Tim Oksuita made the discovery while out birding May 31.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Biologist Ryan Brady of Washburn is a dedicated birder who has over 300 species on his life list.
