PHNOM PENH: A Malaysian national was convicted by the Phnom Penh municipal court and sentenced to two and a half years in prison for trafficking drugs in Chamkar Mon district last year.
Judge Nou Veasna said Toh Kian Khong, 37, who was employed by a casino in Svay Rieng province's Bavet city, was convicted for drug use and trafficking and sentenced to 30 months in prison on Thursday.
"The court fines him four million riel [about US$1,000] to put in the state budget," he added.
The judge said Toh was arrested on the evening of Aug 13, 2017 after police from the Interior Ministry's anti-drug department raided his rental house in Chamkar Mon district's Boeung Keng Kang I commune.
He added that police seized two packages of dried marijuana weighting 25g, two packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 45g, one mobile phone, and other drug-related materials. He tested positive for drug use after a urinalysis, the judge added.
At Thursday's trial, Toh denied being a drug trafficker, but confessed to using drugs for many years.
He added that the drugs seized from his rental house belonged to his Vietnamese wife who is at large.
She had left for Vietnam a few days before police raided his house and arrested him, he claimed. – Khmer Times
