This is the spectacular moment a lorry loaded with fireworks crashed triggering a spontaneous roadside pyrotechnic display.

Dazzling rockets lit up the evening sky as they exploded above the scene of the accident near the town of Guaduas in Cundinamarca, Colombia.

The impromptu firework display was captured on camera by a passing motorist who stopped to film it with his smartphone.

His footage shows the consignment of fireworks going off with lightning speed, one after the other, from the crashed vehicle by the side of the road.

Filming from the safety of his own vehicle, the man can be heard gasping in awe at the dazzling display.

He chatters throughout the clip, astonished by the sudden bursts of bright light.

Police have launched an investigation and reminded citizens to be cautious when transporting fireworks by road - especially over the festive period.

Fireworks are popular in South America during Christmas and New Year, especially among children.

But many countries have banned or limited their use because of an increase in the number of injuries - with 63 people in Colombia hurt so far this month.
