Newtown shooting victims’ families get green light for next steps in suit against maker of assault weapon used in deadly attack

A Connecticut judge ruled that the families of the 26 Newtown shooting victims can advance the next step in its lawsuit against Remington Arms Co., the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle used in the slaughter.

Lawyers for the families can now depose company execs, who were compelled by the ruling to surrender documents to the plaintiffs. Judge Barbara Bellis also marked April 3, 2018, as the date the case will be heard in court.

Last week, Bellis rejected the defendants’ request for a dismissal of the wrongful death case brought after the December 2012 killing spree in the Sandy Hook Elementary school.
