MPD arrests man after he substantially beat man, stole cell phone

Madison Police Department arrested a Madison man late Thursday night after he substantially beat a man on the 100 block of State Street.

According to a MPD incident report, the victim, a 21 year-old man with no permanent address, was setting up his sleeping bag when the perpetrator, Howard Eskridge, 29, punched him multiple times in the head.

Eskridge then took the victim’s cell phone and fled the scene. A passerby who had witnessed the events then called the police.

On arrival, police determined the victim sustained significant head injuries and transported him to a nearby hospital.

Responding officers then used surveillance footage to locate and arrest Eskridge on the 100 block of East Mifflin Street.

Eskridge was arrested for substantial battery, robbery with use of force, disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim.
