A Plymouth Argyle defender has admitted speeding and using his mobile phone while driving.

Yann Songo'o appeared at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court on August 3 to face four charges – having been unable to attend any of four previous scheduled court appearances.

The Cameroonian is accused of driving a Porsche Boxster on Mannamead Road, Plymouth, on December 2, 2016, without any insurance and driving while using a mobile.

Songo'o has been unable to attend four previous scheduled court appearances to face these charges.

Songo'o – who was born in France - was initially meant to attend Bodmin Magistrates Court on May 3 to face three counts.

He did not appear at court on that date and it was adjourned to May 5 at Plymouth Magistrates Court.

He did not appear at court on that date and the case was adjourned to June 12 at Plymouth Magistrates Court. He did not appear on that date either.

At the previous hearing, held on July 17, Plymouth magistrates heard there were no details recorded to suggest the 25-year-old defender, who was recorded as living at an address in Grantley Gardens, Mannamead, had ever had the summons served on him.

Songo'o, it was suggested, may have been living in France before the football season resumed.

At Magistrates Court on August 3, Songo'o pleaded guilty to the charges of speeding and driving while using a mobile. He has not yet entered pleas for driving without insurance or a licence.

The case has been adjourned until August 21 while a notary in Spain to authenticate documentation and submit it to police in the UK.
